Slithering Swallows are alleged paranormal entities that lurk or slither inside shadows and even the shadows of people. Most witnesses who have encountered them have either disappeared or committed suicide, so it is assumed that these entities are malevolent and extremely dangerous. There are a few documented reports and journal entries of self-proclaimed witnesses who have gone missing and are presumed dead. These documents hold information of the entities known as Slithering Swallows. The mysterious cult has named the entities Volucris anguis meaning "bird snake" in Latin, claiming to have knowledge about the Slithering Swallows. They have stated that these entities are the souls of people who were consumed by depression that led to suicide, forbidden to obtain any salvation.
From what I can gather through the documented reports, Slithering Swallows commonly manifest inside the shadow of a depressed person. They have the appearance of a slim humanoid. All witnesses have described the lower part of its body to remain obscured by the shadow that the creature comes from since the entities never fully leaves a shadow - many speculate it to be a serpent-like tail. A sharp bone or scythe-like appendage seems to be protruding from the tip of its melded fingers. Many theorize that the entities use this to attack their potential victims or drag them into their own shadows, leaving no evidence whatsoever, hence their name "Slithering Swallow". This might explain the disappearance of anyone who has encountered them, yet it remains inconclusive. The way the reports describe the entities to always lurk in shadows to swallow its prey who are commonly depressed people, suggest a symbolism of depression being a shadow that shrouds and swallows us in darkness. This can also be supported by many notes that describe a Slithering Swallow's presence to cause sadness but once it lurks inside someone's shadow, it will cause that person to have immense depression.
A Slithering Swallow's face consist of what appears to be a beak with a humanoid jaw. And some of these entities have been reported to have skeletal wings instead of their common scythe-like blades, hence the metaphor of a bird forever trapped in a shrouded cage of melancholy and despair.
Since there has never been a report of the creature to completely leave a shadow, it is speculated that Slithering Swallows can't leave a shadow or cannot survive if their entire body leaves a shadow. This could symbolize how depression can be a prison of hopelessness.
A mysterious note that is linked to the Slithering Swallows reads: The illness that lingers in all of us, suppressed and buried by happiness, but it doesn't matter. It will lurk in the darkest corners of our hearts and when it hits, it will hit us hard. Depression might never have a cure; it has attached itself to the very soul of many unfortunate people in this world. Either we learn how to deal with it or get swallowed in its darkness and forever perish. The souls of those who have perished from this are forever trapped in every shadow that exists in this world. Eternally caged and forsaken from any light. Forced to cower in the very shade that swallowed them. Through their despair, their souls rot and reshape as a newborn entity of hatred towards an unfair world. The embodiment of depression itself.
Additional note:There have been a few who have called the entities void slithers and shadow slithers.
